Direct Teacher Observation PDF Print E-mail
Teachers and assistants at HCDS are trained using a PSI (Personalized System of Instruction) approach that was developed by Fred Keller in the 1960s. Monetary increases in salary are based on the completion of a set of modules. The modules are a set of scripted goals that aide in shaping a teachers verbal behavior about teaching, classroom management, knowledge of instructional tactics based on research, implementation of instructional tactics in the classroom, and knowledge about ABA. In addition, teachers receive weekly, direct observations of their behavior by certified behavior analysts. The direct observations are used as a tool to analyze student and teacher interactions and the rate of student learning. The direct observation is used to further shape expert teacher behavior within the classroom setting.
